Depression can be the result of loneliness and isolation.

Luckily residents in the Meander Valley have some fantastic organisations that host regular events that you can attend.

Getting along to these events allows you to meet new people, socialise, learn new skills or just get out of the house and do something different.

Deloraine House is the perfect example of an organisation that hosts and organises community events. Their eating with friends events for example are open to everyone to come along to a monthly gathering and enjoy an inexpensive meal and meet people from the local community.

Maybe the ‘Blokes day out’ or the Deloraine Community Shed is more your style.

The simple act of going along to one of these events, workshops or events goes a long way to tackling isolation and loneliness.

Deloraine House publishes an events calendar here :

The meander valley gazette also publishes an events calendar with upcoming opportunities to get out and about.  You can download the latest copy of the gazette here :

Another great way to tackle loneliness and isolation is to join a service club. Deloraine Lions Club, Apex and Rotary are amongst the many service clubs that welcome new members. They do great work in the local community and provide the opportunity to meet people and help out others in need, which goes a long way to providing you with a sense of purpose which can be a prominent feature lacking in people suffering from isolation and loneliness.
